So there's a lot of talk about picking a word-of-the-year this time of year. Why all the fuss? Why throw out the tradition of New Year's resolutions? It's all the same- right?

When You Want Real Change

Well, no. There is a big difference between the two. With Resolutions, we often have long lists of what we will do--Lose weight, eat right, get organized. Although our intentions are good— our good intentions don't create lasting change. As a matter of fact, by mid January 50% of our resolutions are already history. Statistically, 92% of our resolutions fail. 92%! This can create a cycle of discouragement and defeat that is not helpful in achieving sustainable change. Here are a few reasons why you might want to join us on the word-of-the-year club this year:

5 Reasons to Choose a Word of the Year:

  1. A word-of-the-year helps us to set a direction, a focus for our year. It's been said that what ever we focus our attention on, we move toward. So picking 'one word' brings clarity and focus to our desired preferred future. The more clarity and focus is like fuel for the journey.
  2. A word-of-the-year is like a compass. A compass no only helps us set direction, but when we have lost our way, it is a tool to help us get back on track – no matter how far we have strayed from our goal. It allows us to start right where we are without condemnation or failure. Course corrections are part of the journey in using a compass.
  3. Picking a word-of-the-year helps you see wins and blessings. My 2016 word was abundance. It was written on an art piece I'd made in my office-- It was great to be able to see my word right there on my wall throughout the year and be reminded of all the abundance around me and within me.
  4. Picking a word-of-the-year is fun. It's a way to connect with others and learn about the things that matter to them. It's a great way to go deeper and build connections with friends or teams. If you live in Southern California, consider signing up for a  Word-of-the-Year workshop or for those of you outside of southern Cal watch for the Word-of-the-Year video to be released early 2017. So don't be one of the 92% who never accomplish your New Years resolutions. Start a new tradition in 2017 and pick your word-of-the-year!
